John Halligan - Bullying and Suicide Prevention Presentation
The Guidance Program is
designed to help students develop positive self-concepts and effective
decision-making skills. Group guidance, as well as individual counseling,
is available to every student in the school district. Group guidance
assists the student in social adjustments, value judgments, and constructive
school citizenship. Individual counseling services provide students
with assistance surrounding school-related concerns. Crisis counseling
services are also provided as appropriate. Counseling services are intended
to provide students with short-term, problem-solving intervention when
needed. If more intensive, long-term intervention is deemed necessary,
parents/guardians will be contacted and may be requested to sign a counseling
permission slip. The Guidance Counselor also oversees our Character
Education program, Community of Caring, and assists all 8th grade students
in preparing their freshman high school schedules. In addition, the Intervention and Referral Service (I&RS) is available to assist students, teachers and parents. Please contact the School Supervisor for specific information on I&RS. In order for the Guidance Counselor to be effective, it is important that she be made aware of a student’s needs as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. McVerry at Ext. 216 or at amcverry@ftschool.org if you feel your child needs assistance in school. Please click on the Community of Caring link above to learn more about our Character Education program and the corresponding Social Skills curriculum provided to all students at Franklin Township School. |
