There are three basic states of matter.

solid   liquid   gas

A solid has a definite shape and volume.
A liquid has a definite volume, but no definite shape.
A gas has no definite shape or volume.

Matter is anything that takes up space.
Mass is the amount of matter in an object.
Weight is the pull of gravity on matter.
Volume is the amount of space anything occupies.

Physical properties are the characteristics of a substance that can be measured without changing the substance.

Reactivity is the ability of a substance to react chemically.
Solubility is the ability of a substance to dissolve.
Evaporation is the changing of a liquid to a gas.
Condensation is the changing of a gas to a liquid.
Combustibility is the ability to burn.

The difference between a physical change and a chemical change is that in a physical change the original substance remains. In a chemical change, new substances are formed.

Give an example of each:
1. Mixture
2. Solution
3. Physical change
4. Chemical change
