when rebels force him to leave the country.

A series of dictators take over Haiti and rule militarily

Jean-Bertrand Aristide is
elected president in 1990
but is forced to leave the country by the military. In 1995, Aristide returns to Haiti. In 2004 Aristide is forced by the military to leave the country again. The United Nations intervenes and a democratically elected government is formed in 2006.
