Oak Grove
Plantation is located in the southwest area of
Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
The owners of this establishment are Ted and Susan
Blew. They started farming on August 26, 1977. When
they first bought the farm the buildings were run
down and the land around the house and buildings
were overgrown with weeds. Since that time it has
been changed into a beautiful 160 acre organic
farm.
Oak Grove Plantation has a long history in Franklin
Township.
|
A
historical marker in front of the Blew's
Farm proclaims "Oak Grove, site of Active
Settlement, 1700's, 1800's, and early
1900's."

|

|
The
Blew's have 150 hogs, 1 dog, and 18 cats
on their farm.
|
Mrs. Blew lived on
a farm for her whole life. The saddest day of her
life was when her mother and father sold the farm
she grew up on.
Oak Grove
Plantation has two greenhouses.
|
On
sunny summer days it is actually cooler in
the greenhouse, then it is out side.
|

|
All the flowers from the greenhouse go to New York
to be sold at markets.
At 3 A.M. Mr. Blew drives up to New York, sets up
tables and lays out his products for sale. At the
end of the day he packs up his stuff and goes home.
He arrives back at home at 9:00 P.M.
During the winter it is still very busy on Oak
Grove Plantation. The Blew's work long hours when
the weather is fit. They buy all of their seeds
early. The plants that grow best are the ones that
are grown in the greenhouse. Their field crops also
grow very well.
|

|
In the
future the Blews would like to acquire
more land.
|
They also have plans to add an equine center and
they hope to open their farm up for entertainment,
pumpkin picking and other fall activities during
the month of October.

Mr. and Mrs.
Blew Farm often talk about the fact that farm work
is long and hard, but they definitely love what
they do and they are very proud of their family
farm. When Mr. Blew was asked what grows best on
his farm, he very quickly and proudly answered that
that was an easy question to answer, "My children
grow best on our farm."
