Sycamore Farm is a 32 acre farm. Its called Sycamore Farm because of all of the sycamore trees surrounding it. Gibb and Susan McCartney have owned this farm for 20 years. They are the first generation of their family to own the farm since they bought it from a person who was not in their family. Mr. McCartneys father was a farmer in Ireland.
The McCartneys farm house is 250 years old.
It has three additions. One is stone and the other two are white wood. They have a swimming pool and a tennis, basketball, and volleyball court.
Sycamore Farm features a 12 acre lake.
The lake used to be a potato field. It has bass, carp, and other fish in it to eat algae and other water loving plants.
Running a farm involves a lot of work. The McCartneys do have help because they need to keep the barns painted and the fences mended. The McCartneys plan to sell the farm in a few years because neither of their children are interested in farming.
The most enjoyable part of Sycamore Farm are the animals.
They have 30 Romney Marsh sheep, 2 dogs, and a horse.
Mr. McCartney said that the busiest time for him is lambing season, or the spring because the babies are being born. He has to put the sheeps food in a special pen for the lambs so they can crawl under and eat. The older sheep cant fit under the gate, so the lambs can eat without interruption. In spring, a person comes and shaves the sheep. According to Mr. McCartney, sheep are his easiest animals to raise.
Even though there are many difficulties involved in managing a farm, the McCartneys enjoy farming!
