1150 Croton Road

The historic place that I chose was 1150 Croton Road. It belongs to Hope Atkins-Hochenberger. That's my Aunt Hope. The house was built between 1898-1905. It did not have indoor plumbing or heating. It was originally a wood frame house but the stucco was added in the 1930's.

In the 1930's the land dates back to farm land owned by Thomas Gardiner in the 1700's. The farm was sold by Henrey Flock and Elwood Nixon in 1898. It had 39 acres. Nixon sold the farm in 1912 to Henrey first. Henrey first sold it between 1912-1919 to Charles Harper. Mr. Harper sold the far to Gabrelle Ekelhofer sold the farm in 1925 to Victor Droppa of New York City. The Droppa's owned the farm for 62 years and added many of the farm's barns. They also added the indoor plumbing and heating. It was a dairy farm, chicken farm, hay and grain farm, then during those 62 years.

The Droppas had 2 children named Victor and Andrew who could be seen in their school picture in Facts and Fantasies of Franklin. My Mom visited there when she was a child. Then the Droppas sold the farm to the Panaceks in 1987. They changed the farm to 5.6 acres and added the remaining acres to their own farm. I lived on the 33 acre Panacek farm. It is part of the Preservation program.

The Panaceks sold the farm to the Edwards and they farmed the 5.6 acres. In 1993 my Aunt Hope bought the farm. She has cows, goats, and chickens. She wants to preserve the house and barns to keep it an active farm.
