The place I chose as the most historical place in Franklin Township is my house. My house is estimated to be about 250 years old. We had two families that came to my house and told us some stories. The stories were more about the barns and the land. They really did not give us a lot of information about the house. We talked to a man that lived here in 1940. He said that the house back then only had 2 small bedrooms and a kitchen (dining room). Another person we talked to about 8 months ago told us about how his father, brother, and himself built the spring house. When he was here, he was surprised it was still standing. Actually, it is in good condition. My mother's friends' parents moved in 1960. The only information she had was that when they replaced a window, the insulation was made up of horse hair, mud, newspaper, and chicken wire. The ceiling in the oldest part of the house is very low. That room is now our library. It has an old stone fireplace in it. Under the library there is a very small crawl space (my Mom and I were not going to go in there). They moved out in 1993 (then my family moved in). I found my infomation from pervious owners. I think my house is historic because the infomation goes back to the 1940's. Spring, 2000 |
