The Hackberry tree is located in Northern Franklin Township. This is the most historic place. This tree was alive before any settlers settled here. It is older than any buildings in the township. This Hackberry tree is Hunterdon county's largest tree. It has bright green elm like leaves and edible small purplish dash black fruits. Birds like to eat them. The tree is covered with wart like bumps. I think this tree is important to me because it gives me respect for nature and history! Spring, 2000 |
