There are many historical sights in beautiful Franklin Township. Since I attend Franklin Township School, the history of the early red one room School House is very interesting to me.
The Little Red school house was recently repaired and painted. It probably dates back to late 1800's.
There was probably about 10 to 15 children in the class. There was one teacher. All different grades in the one room school house. The children had recess like we do today. They played similar games from what we play now, such as, baseball, basketball, hopscotch, kick ball, tag, hide and seek, Checkers, and many board games. Life was very simple then. There were no computers, t.v, and vowed games, but everyone still survived.
The Little Red School
House
I chose the "Little Red School House" because it was very interesting to me! What I read is that it had a 5 foot tall ceiling and kids could kick it. It had no paint. Long planks of wood were used for seats. Students carved on them with jack knives. Inside and out it was not much to look at. When you walked in the teacher's desk was to your right and the chalkboard was to your left. "The Little Red School House" is important because it was one of first schools ever built!
