Pittstown is partly in Franklin Township. It is the oldest village. It was named by Moore Furman in honor of William Pitt during the Revolutionary War.
Before this it was called Hoff's Mill. Hoff was the previous owner of the most of the property. It was sometimes called "Pitts Town Mills" in old land deeds. It was the seat of milling industry. It has been said that Pittstown was important during the Revolutionary War as a Quartermaster Depot.
I think it was important because it once had two stores, one grist mill, one foundry, and one machine shop that was in Frnaklin Township. It also had two blacksmiths shops and about twenty dwellings.

Pittstown
Did you ever wonder how Pittstown got it's name? Well
Pittstown used to be a peach farm. In 1846, the first peach orchard
was planted, by Joseph K. Potts on the farm now owned by Thomas
Evans. The peaches were carried in carts to Easton, Pennsylvania. I
think what I chose was historic, because I think Pittstown is
interesting even if I only lived here for three weeks. Also, because
I think there a lot of historic places, like the Hoff Mills Inn,
their food is good. Well about the time peach farming was in it's
prime. I'm sure it was hard to plant peach orchards, but I would like
to do it.

Pittstown
The town of Pittstown is where I live. Long before I was born, as far back as 1740, is when this town was formed. It once had three mills. One of those mills was the Furman Grist Mill which is now a specialty store for equestrians (horse owners and riders). In the late 1700s, Pittstown was called Hoffs on maps.
One of the first people to live here was Edward Rockhill. His home was surrounded by wilderness. It is one of the oldest villages settled by the Rockhills, the Littles, the Pottses, the Furmans and others way back before the Revolution.
It is said that Pittstown was named by Moore Furman in honor of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, because of his outspoken friendship for the struggling colonies during the Revolution. The present day Hoff Mills Inn used to be an Inn for travelers during the Revolutionary War days. Many military men used to stay here.
In order to reach Pittstown from any direction, you must go downhill. But there is nothing dismal about it. The Capoolong, keeps it well drained while the people keep it neat and attractive. Pittstown is a very good place to live, rich in local history and in its many farms, citizens and pleasant homes.
I think Pittstown is a very good town, and it is very rural. Although it is very beautiful, there are some bad things. Because the homes are so far apart you don't usually have many friends who live near you. A kid can't just go outside and play with some friends, like in the city. But its better than living in the city, because you have more open space to run around and play.
Pittstown has a lot farms with animals like horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens and pigs. I have two sheep in a big barn.
