The Quakertown
Recreation Club
My historic place is the Quakertown Recreation Club. I picked
this place because it has been in my family for years. 15 young men built
it in 1955. There are 75 members and 20 landowners for hunting. The Quakertown
Recreation Club makes hot dogs for the fishing derby at Rogers Pond, rents
the club or the pavilion out for parties. They also have monthly meetings
with all of the members.
The Quakertown Recreation Clubs first meeting was January 27, 1947 and continues
today. Meetings are the first Monday of every month except on holidays, which
then are the second Monday. We are a recreation and hunting club for the Franklin
Township area.
Our recreation included donating to the local churches, schools, firehouse,
and local businesses. The boy scouts for their meetings use it & sleepovers
and we also sponsor them. We donate for the Halloween tailgating, Easter egg
hunt and fishing derby. We are also an active hunting club.
Landowners donate their land for hunting; in return we post their land, invite
them to a yearly picnic and wave any rental fees if using the club for personal
use.
The QRC started with 32 members with a $5.00 yearly fee and now allow up to
100 members with a $50.00 yearly fee with junior member a $25.00 fee. To keep
the place up to date we hold parties, picnics, turkey& ham shoots for
the holidays and other various functions through out the year. All work is
done by the members and have seasonal work details. There is by-law that is
always up dated and members have to abide by. I did my report on the QRC because
my dad is the president and I thought it would be a good thing to do it on.
