The William Case House
Pittstown, New Jersey

My Historic House

My house was built one hundred and thirty two years ago by William Case and is called the William Case House. There is a corner stone in our house's foundation that has "William Case 1868" chiseled into it. In the 1980's a book company, called The Main Street Press bought the William Case House. When the Main Street Press owned it each room was an office! Then in 1993 my family bought the William Case House and we have lived in it for six and a half years.

We also have a creek in our backyard, it is called Capoolong Creek which is an Indian name. It is about one to two feet high regularly and in rainstorms can be up to six feet high!

William Case was forty-nine years old when he built the William Case House. Mr. Case's father's name was Christopher Case. His businesses included the Case Lumber Company and Deats, Case & Company.

On our property there are four structures: the wagon house, the out house, a barn, and our house, all of which are about 132 years old. Our barn has a rubble base and it is two stories tall. The out house shows what life was like long ago because you would have to go outside at night in the cold to go to the bathroom.

I am glad I live in an old house and I like it more than a new house.
