Caring for Our World
My name is Megan Bird and I am writing to you as a reply about making the world more beautiful. To me, wildflowers make the world more beautiful. I don't believe it takes any specific kind, just wildflowers in general. When you are driving down the road and you see some wildflowers you notice and think, "These are beautiful!" Have you ever looked through a spring calendar? Most of the time spring calendars have flowers and wildflowers in them and even though they are a photograph, they are still pretty. My favorite wildflower, since I live in Texas, would have to be either butter cups or bluebonnets. Bluebonnets are the Texas state flower. Butter cups are pale yellow and bluebonnets are blue at the bottom and white at the top.
When caring for our world, people should consider reusing. Many people throw objects away when they could be used again. Most people throw trash away without even thinking about what kinds of good things they can be used for.
Have you ever made a bird feeder? To make this you will need some materials. There are several ways to make a bird feeder. For the materials you will need: a used egg carton, some string, some scissors, bird seed, a teaspoon of sugar, and a hole puncher.
The first step to making a bird feeder is the easiest. All that you have to do is cut the top off of the egg carton. Next you take the hole puncher and make one hole per side of the egg carton. Then you thread the string through the holes that you punched in the side. Tie it in a knot and do the exact same thing on all of the other holes.
Next pour some bird seed in each of the little egg holders. The final step is to sprinkle a tiny bit of sugar on the bird seed. This will attract more birds.
Before people throw things away they need to stop and think about the good things that they can be used for. I hope you will use your used objects to make something and show you care about our world.
The beach is affected by pollution because the tankers, tar, trash, and other bad things that have pollution in them often seem to end up on the beaches around the United States, as well as around the world. Pollution is bad because it makes the fish die and other living animals in the ocean suffer and sometimes they also die. People can't swim in the ocean if it is polluted. The more pollution you have at a beach the more bad things will happen. The ground will can become polluted, and the ocean will be more polluted. People will not visit the area if it is too polluted.
We could protect the ocean by not having as many tankers out in the ocean. We must have no more people throwing trash in the ocean. We should put up a sign that says, "If you pollute this area, you will have to pay a $500 fine." We must try to keep tar out of the water. The less pollution the beach gets, the more people will come and have a blast swimming in the clear blue ocean water. We can help the world be a better place if we get rid of pollution.
Animals add to the beauty of our world. Just imagine if they could talk! Wouldn't it be neat if we could have a conversation like this one?
"Good morning, my name is Kirsten Meinecke, from the Ingram Elementary School newspaper. Today I am going to interview a three year old cheetah named Cheech. I asked him a few questions and here is what he said."

"It was nice to see you, Cheech, and thank you for coming today for this interview."
"Your welcome. It was a pleasure to be here today."
I am interviewing a beautiful white rose named Mary Rosebud. Here's what Mrs. Rosebud had to say about our environment.
My question was, "What do you think of our environment?
She answered, "Well, I think people should not litter because it makes the air smell bad. I love the air's fresh smell and it should be in good condition so that you can smell it. I also think that we should clean up all the litter so that our environment can be clean. I am upset when someone wakes up in the morning and goes for a walk, dropping wrappers as they go. What if someone else comes along and does the same, over and over all day? It will get real bad by the end of the day."
My next question was, "How can we clean up the whole world?"
She answered, "We could make a HELP THE WORLD foundation or something that will help the world. We could make sure that each state is cleaning up all the trash. They would clean up any trash that they see, and make sure that no one litters. Or we could take a world trip to clean everything."
I told her that we could maybe do that and it was a great ideal and that I enjoyed talking to her.
