Dutchess County Fair

This Fair runs toward the end of August, every summer. When you go there one thing you can see is the Horse Show. The Horse Show lasts about the entire day. You also can see the bull pull where they have judges hook the bulls up to carts and then start adding cement blocks. Whichever bull can hold the most cement blocks wins.

Also at the fair there are different stands were you can buy food, drinks, toys, crafts etc. There is also a carnival part on the fair grounds. At the carnival there are roller coasters, space ship rides, spinning strawberries and other really cool rides. We hoped you enjoyed hearing about the Dutchess County Fair.

I have never traveled far from my home. My family and I usually spend holidays at my Granny's in the country. There are big lakes and we go to swim and to catch fish. In the garden there are many apples, cherries, currants, and different vegetables, but she does not grow oranges, bananas, although I like them very much. I hope, someday I shall travel in the country, where bananas grow.

Hello , dear participants of Learning Circles! There are much books, tales, films, programs on TV about Terrific Travels, but more interesting is travel itself. One day we went to Issyk-Kul. This is a lake, situated in the nearby republic of Kyrgyzstan. We went by car on the road along beautiful high mountains, have passed a bubbling river, and collected different red, yellow, lilac, and white flowers. When we arrived on the lake, we stayed in the small lodge along the shore.

We went on an excursion in the mountain gorge and looked at nature. There were many fir trees, waterfalls, and mushrooms. We returned bathed, tanned, and reposed.

Williamsburg

The place I like to visit the most is my house in Williamsburg, Virginia. It is about a 7 hour drive away. Every time we go there, my brother, Phil, always tries to keep me awake the whole trip. Normally I fall asleep in the mini-van because we have our own seats.

The things I like best are: I have my own room, there is a Jacuzzi in the back room, there is a steam shower, and there is at least 3 pools right outside. It has a big TV in my mom 's room. Sometimes, my brothers and I fight about bathrooms. I always get the best out of the four. Our next trip is in the summer.

My Favorite Attractions

I love going places and doing things with my family. The Statue of Liberty is my favorite attraction. I like it because it's very fun but historical. It's what the immigrant's first saw when they first came to America. My favorite part was seeing the Statue from the ferryboat. I also like the Liberty Science Center. It's very interesting. My favorite thing there was the Omni theater. It's a theater that surrounds you. I saw a movie about Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. It was like being there! The Clinton mill is another favorite attraction of mine. It's a recreation of the actual mill that was once there. I think it's interesting to see how things used to be long ago.

HACKLEBARNEY

Hacklebarney is a state park in New Jersey. It isn't your ordinary park with slides and swings. Hacklebarney has big rocks to climb, different sized waterfalls, and a lot of trees, although it does have a little section where there are swings and slides. On your walk down the many trails you will pass creeks which lead to the Black River. There are rocks over the water where you could stop to eat or fish if you like.

There is one really big rock that my family calls Turtle Rock because it looks like the round shell of a turtle. When my family goes to Hacklebarney we usually stop at a cider mill where there are baked goods.

We always get cider donuts. When my mom's brother was young he found a bullfrog that was about 8 inches long. That is mostly what Hacklebarney is about. I have gone there since I was a baby and I will never stop going.

Snowdon

Near my home there is a beautiful horse farm. It is called Snowdon, and all the ponies' names have to do with snow, like Flurry, Winter Spice, and Snow Prince. There are 12 stalls. You can take riding lesson there, and you can also see other animals like ducks, deer, and, and rabbits. Once we saw a baby fawn. Some people just come to watch the lesson. Maybe you can come too!

There are two amusement parks I like to travel to. Both have roller coasters with the highest drops in the east. Both have fun rides. One is called Dorney Park in Pennsylvania. The other one is called Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.

At Dorney Park, there are lots of water rides. There are also a lot of roller coasters. The big wooden coaster is called Hercules. Steel Force is the other. It was formally the roller coaster with the highest drop in the east. Now they are building a better one at Six Flags.

Six Flags is twice the size of Dorney Park. It has tons more rides and roller coasters. They are building the east's roller coaster with the highest and fastest drop there. They also have a drive through safari park with lots of wild animals. They give special programs for Girl and Boy Scouts. From the parking lot you can see the big roller coasters.

I really like these amusement parks. They are fun. I like the roller coasters the best. They will always be fun for me.

I love to go to the beach. It's nice and it's hot outside. I enjoy watching the boats cruise along the waves of the ocean. I like to feed the seagulls. I love when the ocean breezy runs through your hair. I love to swim. Surfing is fun. It's also hard. When I go to the beach, I build sand castles or other things I like to cover my brother and sister with sand. After swimming , I enjoy laying down on a soft towel and feeling the warmth of the sun on my body. I like o take long walks collection seashells.

Where I Think You Should Go

I think you should go to the zoo. Its a place were wild and normal animals stay. Its almost like a shelter for all different kinds of animals. People from all over the world go to the zoo. When I went to the zoo I had one of the best times of my life. All my friends and I like the zoo.

You can always learn a lot at the zoo, like I did. The best zoo I have ever been to is the Philadelphia Zoo. I think the only place I would have fun at if I came from Texas is the Philadelphia Zoo.

Brittany Eustace

Every year I go to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. There are many fun rides I like to go on such as, Batman and Robin The Chiller, Scream Machine, Batman, Viper, and the new Medusa which is one of the biggest roller coasters in the world and the top roller coaster for 1999. I've heard from some people that say to haven't seen anything you've seen Medusa.

There is also a zoo and a water park at Six Flags. The zoo has many animals that roam free in the roads. You have to watch when a monkey drops a banana on you cars windshield. The water park is really fun and it has a lot of water rides. My favorite water ride is the one when you walk up 13 stories of steps then at the top you board a 2 seater raft and plummet 136 feet into a pool of water. Six Flags also has a lot of shops, that's my mom's favorite part of the park.

James Mandaglio

When you live next to Camp Carr and the Raritan River there a lot of fun things to do. You can go boogie boarding and tubing down the river. In some parts of the river there are rapids and when I go tubing I go really fast through these.

In Camp Carr you can go to the swimming pool, play sports, and explore. I am guessing they are fun. All that you have to do if you are at my house is go down the driveway, go left and go 266 yards and your at Camp Carr.

The Jersey Shore!

The Jersey Shore is filled with wonderful sites to see. There are wonderful boardwalks along the sand. When I go down, I stay at a nice little hotel with bed and breakfast. Along the boardwalk, there are shops, arcades, and restaurants. My favorite restaurant is every pizza place around! My Aunt Peggy has a condo. Sometimes when we are running short on cash, we stay with her! I would like to learn how to ''hang ten!'' I think surfing is cool!

See Ya!

Fenton Art Glass

Hi to you all! Our names are Auriana and Shelley. We would like to tell you about Fenton Art Glass in Williamstown, West Virginia. Well, on the outside it is made of bricks. On the inside there is a Gift Shop. Sometimes it has Beanie Babies and candy, and of course there is glass. They give tours, and you get to see how to make lots of different colorful glass figures. When you walk in, there is a place that looks like a factory. In there they show how to shape the glass.

They you walk far away to another part of the factory and you go behind this huge fan and you see people carrying sticks with glass on them. They do not show the cold metal side. In the cold metal side they pain the glass. The hot metal part is where our dads work.

Fiesta, Texas

Welcome to Fiesta, Texas, where the fun comes alive. You can go to different shows in Rockville, which is a name of a "town." The different towns' names are Rockville, Spazburg, and Crackaxle Canyon. In Crackaxle Canyon you see Country Western shows. Then in Spazburg you see German shows, as well as stores where you can buy German items. But in Rockville the visitors go back to poodle skirts and malts, just like things were in the 1960's. There is also a train that takes you around to different places in Fiesta, Texas. Fiesta Texas is located in San Antonio and it is surrounded by 100 foot cliffs. They have different restaurants and great food. Some of the main rides that are in Fiesta, Texas, are the Rattler, Twister, Bungee Jumping, and Joker's Revenge. There is a water park that contains a few rides and pools. They have a big hot tub that looks like a pool. The lazer show which is projected on one of the big cliffs that surrounds Fiesta, Texas, is shown each evening just before closing time, at ten o'clock. Fiesta, Texas, is a great vacation park for you to take your family.

Enchanted Rock

In the gorgeous Hill Country of Southern Texas lies a beautiful landscape reaching four hundred twenty-five feet tall and six-hundred-forty acres big. This large piece of granite lies eighteen miles North of Fredericksburg on Ranch Road 1965.

The rock has wonderful plant and animal life. It costs five dollars per person to get onto Enchanted Rock and you go for free if you are under thirteen years old. There are many fun activities at Enchanted Rock. They are many things to do such as bouldering, climbing, hiking, camping, and visiting many caves.

The rock has one major cave which is called Death Cave. When you make it to the top of the tall boulder you seem to be at the top of the world. Though the hiking is fun, if you plan on a full climb to the top, we recommend that you bring along one gallon of water per person. Also you should wear hiking boots. When you go to Enchanted Rock you will want to stay all day and night. It closes at 10:00 P.M. for hikers but campers are allowed to stay overnight. A note for campers: There are no commodes nearby. Some animals will be dangerous to you if you hurt them. Water moccasins (snakes in the water) are dangerous, so be careful. Have a blast as you walk around this beautiful Enchanted Rock.

Y.O. Ranch

In the beautiful Hill Country of Texas lies the Y.O. Ranch. It was established in 1880 by Captain Charles Schreiner and contains over forty thousand acres of Texas longhorns, cowboys and exotic animals. The Y.O. Ranch is a throwback to our roots; a modern working ranch and the home of Southwestern hospitality for over 110 years. Spread over the Texas Hill Country, the Y.O. Ranch is a favorite destination for the stars of Hollywood, Nashville and Wall Street. It is an adventure camp for youth and a true "out of your rut" getaway for adults and children.

Animals not indigenous to Texas roam with native wildlife on Y.O. Ranch grasslands near Mountain Home. Horseback riding and stylish swimming pools provide relaxation. You can enjoy the wildlife like ostriches, whitetail deer, zebra, cattle, giraffes, sika, oryx, and many, many more. There are over 50,000 different kinds of species. But the Y.O. Ranch is a real 40,000 acres working ranch. Its an awesome experience that takes visitors way back in time.
