Living Things
Use complete sentences to answer the following questions.
1. Describe 3 ways that a mushroom and a dandelion are alike. Describe 3 ways
that they are different.
Alike: Both are living things. Both need food to survive. Both cannot
move around to different locations.
Different: The mushroom is a fungus and the dandelion is a plant. The mushroom
produces spores and the dandelion produces seeds. The mushroom absorbs food
from living or dead things, while the dandelion produces its own food.
2. Why do plants need chlorophyll, while you do not?
Plants need chlorophyll to produce food in their leaves. People get
their food from plants and animals. We do not produce food in our bodies.
3. Arthropods have jointed legs. A lobster, a butterfly, and a squirrel have
jointed legs. But, one (1) of these animals is NOT an arthropod. Which one?
Explain why.
A squirrel is not an arthropod because arthropods are invertebrates
and a squirrel is a vertebrate. (Has a backbone)
