How Can I Help My Child

Read to Your Child : The research is replete, those parents who read to their children produce students who are
better readers than those who aren't read to at home. After reading to your child ask them questions about the
text to enhance comprehension skills. Ask them to recall in proper order the events of the story.

As curricular areas are covered in class review with your child for a few minutes the specific concept addressed
in the classroom. For example: If we are covering the letter "C" in class, review words that start with that letter for
practice.

Have your child: paint, color, string beads, write, cut and paste. All of these activities will enhance fine motor
development.

Encourage your child to interact with peers through play dates and socialization activities. These gatherings will
encourage sharing and cooperative interaction with peers.

Allow your child opportunities to run, jump and play on a playground. This will develop gross motor skill areas.

As you go through your daily routine encourage your child to converse about their feelings and observations in
complete sentences
.

Expose your child to colors, numerals, letters and shapes. Sort objects at home by shape, size and color. This
will reinforce readiness skilll areas.

Encourage your child to assume responsibility for belongings.
