The Franklin Township School District’s technology curriculum is based on state, national, and international standards. Students learn current industry-standard word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation programs using Microsoft Office. Digital cameras, photo editing, keyboarding, and movie making are all taught via project-based learning. Incorporated into all projects and lessons are time management, use of proper tech terminology, and care of equipment. Technology skills aren’t learned in a vacuum, but are tied to various curricula to support learning in and outside the classroom. The upcoming Iditarod unit started as an avid request from a third grader, “Can we learn about dogs?” This cross-curricular unit will include information about dogs, Alaska, geography, science, spreadsheets, data collection, presentations, and more. Dr. Yates and I have teamed up to infuse technology into students’ history projects in the middle school. To support the eighth graders’ study of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, students chose from a variety of background research projects to enhance their understanding of Dickens’ era and popularity. Holidays, special events, and classroom projects are  all part of the technology curriculum.

Did you know?

Franklin student artwork was on exhibit at the Hunterdon Art Museum from Sunday, February 7 through Friday, February 19.  The opening reception was held from 2:00 - 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 14th on the 3rd floor of the museum.  This past fall, our 7th and 8th graders created awesome digital camera photographs during the digital camera unit in Mrs. Schoch’s Technology classes.  Sixth graders took positive and negative photos during Mr. Farnsworth’s art class.  Other works from art classes, such as print making and special group projects, were also showcased.

Technology & your health

While studies are currently inconclusive about the dangers of listening to loud sounds via headphones and earbuds, we remind our students to keep the sound turned as low as possible when using headphones in Technology class. We also recommend that during recreational use they use only one earbud for no more than an hour, then switch ears. Below are links for your edification on this topic.
